Frequently Asked Questions

I think my child needs a lawyer. How can I get one?

In accordance with the statute in Oregon, if a child requests an attorney in a domestic relations case they must be appointed one.

Parties may request appointment of an attorney for the child, but the decision to appoint is within the judges discretion.

A family court judge can also choose to appoint an attorney for a child at their discretion.

Can I hire a CCS attorney?

Sadly, no. All CCS case appointments are made by the presiding Family Court Judge in the counties we serve.

Is a CCS attorney a CASA?

By statue in Oregon, those who represent children in a domestic relations case must be attorneys.

Each CCS attorney is authorized to practice law in Oregon and focus solely on representing children in the domestic relations arena.

CASA provides lay volunteer's to protect children in the Juvenile Law arena only, not in domestic relations. For more information on CASA please visit www.casahelpskids.org/.
